Educator Success Story:
“Teaching, for me, is a calling, and I always prioritise the Radley entrepreneurs.”
Steven Marira – Maths & Technology Guide
I’ve been in the teaching profession for over 20 years and it has been an interesting journey for me. I believe that learning is a continuous process with no age limit. Teaching, for me, is a calling, and I always prioritise the Radley entrepreneurs.
I joined Radley in 2011 and have seen its transformation from the “Old Radley” to the “New Radley.” Initially, accepting this change was challenging but I had to embrace the idea of changing my mindset. As Terry Heick says, “the best teachers are the ones that change their minds.” After receiving entrepreneurial training, everything became clear and more fascinating, as I was then able to connect the dots. I now easily integrate academic learning with entrepreneurial concepts, providing the young Radley entrepreneurs with the opportunity to think outside the box.
According to Gail Goldwin, good teaching consists of a quarter preparation and three-quarters theatre. To make my lessons interesting and capture the entrepreneurs’ attention, I incorporate theatrical elements – this approach actually eases my workload as learners are encouraged to discover things on their own!
I have transitioned from traditional teaching methods to a guidance-based approach where I provide learners with guidance to facilitate their understanding. Entrepreneurs tend to grasp concepts better when they can explore and discover on their own. By using the Radley heart-set, mindset, and skillset in their learning journey, they develop into self-sustainable and self-motivated leaders.
Radley has nurtured my creativity, problem-solving abilities and, above all, my ability to think outside the box. I am continuously growing in these entrepreneurial skills under the guidance of Radley and absolutely love it. Passion is what propels me forward each and every day.
