Educator Success Story:
“I’m so looking forward to my journey at Radley! It’s exciting to know that this school is now my second home. ”
Mrs Kerra-Leigh Engelsman – Life Orientation, History, Social Science Guide
A lot of great stories begin with, “Once upon a time…” and mine does too! Once upon a time, I started my career in teaching. Being a teacher is something you are born with, you either can or you can’t. I’ve taught both GDE and IEB over the last 14 years and it has been an adventurous and exciting journey with so many blessings along the way.
The greatest blessing would be the day my path took a turn towards Oxford Street in Ferndale. I was about to take a break to recalibrate when I got a call from Marisa at Raizcorp to ask if I could fill in for someone during maternity leave. The History and English teacher position was soon filled in a more permanent capacity when I decided to stay on at Radley Private School.
Teaching at Radley is not like teaching anywhere else! The school is small and it’s such a calm learning environment. It’s refreshing to be part of a team that personalises and nurtures each entrepreneur’s learning journey. There is a feeling of safety and security here too, and a feeling of being ”home”. It has been many years since I’ve woken up and been excited to head off to work and teach. Radley is a unique school because the focus here is different, the Executives are learner-focused and each and every soul in this school is loved, adored, accepted and embraced for their individualism.
Radley has the spark and the vibe. You will often find someone doing a presentation, creating a video, putting together a speech or pitching an idea on the Pitch Patch. The entrepreneurial vocabulary and mindset is brought into every subject and lesson and it’s evident that the learners have the upper hand when they interact with peers in other schools. I also love implementing the entrepreneurial sets (mindset, heart-set and skill-set) that are incorporated into the development and growth of our entrepreneurs.
I’m so looking forward to my journey at Radley! It’s exciting to know that this school is now my second home. Please feel free to reach out and chat with me about your child, I look forward to meeting all the parents over the next while!
